When we talk about Making Money Good, this ain’t a one-time deal. Like a good rate on your home loan, or a good comeback on your IG comment. No, we’re talking every day.
That’s why we’ve compiled a list of ways you can make money do good for you from Monday to Sunday, without missing that drink on Tuesday. Craig David would be proud.
Like Mondays again.
You don’t like Mondays? Who does? Certainly not the band who wrote a song about it. So, we’re kicking off this list with a few ways you can make the start of your work week better. Like sleeping in. That’s a goodie.
Of course, if you have to work, then do yourself some good by following ME on Instagram where we like to give away free stuff. See? Feeling good already. And if doing good makes you feel good (if it doesn't, check your pulse), get a SpendME Charity Everyday Transaction Account. Every time you tap, we (not you) donate 1c to a charity of your choice, depending on which card you get, like the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Together, we’ve raised over $1.3million already. Go ME! And you.
Tight Tuesday.
Planning to take her (or him/they) for a drink on Tuesday? Chuck a movie into the mix and you can delete that dating profile forever. But no need to flash the cash – on the first date at least. If you’re keen to save some moula for the week, or a fancy second date, don’t snub your nose at Tighta** Tuesday.
Half price movies are nothing to sneeze at (but if you are sneezing, you should stay well out of the theatre), and some Aussie cinemas still do discount tickets once a week. Of course, if you really need to tighten the purse strings, ask them over for a cooked dinner and an episode of Selling Sunset. Did they decline? No. Did they mind? Didn’t think so.
Wednesday special.
Never mind what Craig did. On hump day, we go grocery shopping. Wait, was that a yawn? Give it a second – you won’t find this tip boring. For many Aussie supermarkets, Wednesday is when the weekly specials roll out. Ka-ching.
If you have to shop (and we assume you do, or you’d have your chef read this blog), just be smart about the day you do it. You can even stock up for that Tuesday night date at home. Remember; you can have your salon Saturdays and Friday game night. Wednesday, we’re getting trollied.
Throw it Out Thursday.
You know #TBT? Well, when Facebook throws up a nostalgic pic of you looking #groovy in 1988 (though we’re not sure that’s not possible), we want you to Throw it Out. That power shoulder jacket. Those parachute pants. Or that neon Wham top. Ok, maybe not that.
But don’t throw it away – Throw it Out to someone on a resale site who’s young enough to wear it ironically, AND make yourself a few bucks. A weekly cull is a great way to do good for your bank balance, your wardrobe and the circular economy. Also, if you’re still using the word ‘groovy’, you probably have a WHOLE LOT of throwing out to do.
Friyay!
There’s no yay in Friday without capping it off with good company and a well-earned tipple or taco. But before you book another set menu from a ‘Best New Restaurants’ list, consider taking advantage of a happy hour.
No longer just messy two-for-one rush hours (though that still exists, we hear). You’ll likely find a great range of appetizers, bar menu items or reduced priced meals to go with your spicy marg. ME thinks it’s also called happy hour because you’ll be smiling when the bill arrives. Unless it’s 3am and your discount hour finished at 7 – that’s a ‘no’ from ME.
Card-free Saturday.
It’s Friday then … it’s Saturday. Here’s a tip when cutting loose on your weekend spending: try using cash for the day so you can actually ‘see’ where your money’s going. What’s that you ask? You know, those colourful paper notes you can buy stuff with.
Sure, ME offers a credit card (with zero annual fee, if you don’t mind the plug), but we’re also all about helping you save money so you can live your best life (hello, 25+ free things you can get on your birthday). And handing over cash might* be one way to stop yourself buying something that’s not on your list, or spending more than you planned. *No promises.
Unsubscribe Sunday.
No, we’re not talking about all those store newsletters you get in your inbox (though you should probably look into that too). While you’re at home Sunday night flicking through the latest releases online (and spending more time deciding than watching), take a moment to review which streaming services you really use and read this.
Much as you might want to, you can’t watch And Just Like That and Game of Thrones episodes at the same time. But it doesn’t mean you have to miss out. If you don’t have to please multiple people in the house, try (just TRY!) bingeing on one service at a time. Sign up to their, ahem, newsletter so they can send you a reminder before your subscription renews. Or make it a habit to put in a calendar reminder to cancel the service before the month is up.
Monday (again).
See what we did there? Just a reminder that Mondays come around fast (like, every week), so remember to Make Money Good every day.
